Actress Barbie Forteza stole the hearts of many with her iconic role as Klay in the hit series Maria Clara at Ibarra, which served as a show that demonstrated a piece of the rich history of Filipinos and their deep sense of nationalism.
As she takes on the role of Adelina dela Cruz in the new series Pulang Araw, Barbie is given another opportunity to revel in a meaningful story that explores the time of World War II—something she is incredibly grateful for.
The 27-year-old actress had taken to social media to express how grateful she was to be given such a role in a show which she deems to be important and meaningful to Filipinos.
“It is an honor to portray the character of Adelina dela Cruz who is a Filipina who dreamed, loved, and courageously fought for freedom and peace during World War II,” said Barbie in her post.
Pulang Araw is a historical drama series set at the time of the Japanese occupation of the Philippines during World War II. It follows the story of four childhood friends who found themselves caught in the middle of the ongoing conflict and have their lives forever changed.
Barbie shared how glad she was that the show is aired on multiple platforms as it would mean that more people will be able to stay tuned to the show’s run.
“Thank you for embracing and watching this story,” she said.
Pulang Araw stars Barbie alongside David Licauco, Sanya Lopez, and Alden Richards. The show is available to watch on GMA Network’s Prime weeknights at 8:00 p.m. and on Netflix.
