The latest Blumhouse thriller, Speak No Evil, is set to open in Philippine cinemas on Sept. 11. The film, directed by James Watkins, is inspired by the 2022 Danish film Gaesterne.

The story follows an American family living in England, who are invited by a British family to their countryside home for a vacation. What begins as an idyllic getaway soon turns into a harrowing experience as the dark side of human nature begins to unravel. The film explores themes of societal pressure, identity crises, and the dangers of seeking an escape from modern life’s constraints.

Producer Jason Blum, who decided to adapt the film after being deeply disturbed by the original, described the experience as one that “recoiled with each new revelation” and “couldn’t shake.” Watkins, drawn to the material for its thematic depth, aimed to create a film that questions societal norms and the price of complacency.

Speak No Evil stars an ensemble cast portraying the Dalton family and their British hosts, exploring the psychological tension that arises when comfort meets danger. The film is distributed by Universal Pictures International.
