As the second largest coffee consumers in Asia after Japan, Filipinos are celebrating their deep-rooted coffee culture at Shangri-La Plaza.

The festivities begin with the Coffee Library at the Grand Atrium, offering a multi-sensory experience featuring local brews, books, art displays, and cozy seating. Visitors can explore an educational exhibit on coffee’s history, science, and cultural impact.

On Aug. 18, the Red Carpet Cinema hosted Kape at Pake, part of the Tingin Southeast Asian Film Festival. This event, held in collaboration with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, includes a discussion on ASEAN cinema paired with a choice of coffee.

The month-long celebration continues with a musical touch on Aug. 25 at 6:30 p.m. as Filipino band Cheats performs live. Known for their indie, pop rock, and alternative rock styles, the band, featuring Jim Bacarro and Saab Magalona, will provide a fitting soundtrack to the coffee festivities.

Shangri-La Plaza’s diverse coffee offerings include the sea salt latte at harlan + holden coffee, an iced yuzu americano at MUJI Coffee Counter, unique blends at Candid Coffee, and Filipino beans at Department of Coffee. Visitors can also enjoy popular options at Starbucks, Bo’s Coffee, Figaro, and UCC Mentore.

Shangri-La Plaza invites coffee lovers to experience and celebrate the joy and connection found in every cup, showcasing the cultural and social significance of coffee in daily life.
