MANILA, Philippines — A Chinese research vessel came within just 40 nautical miles (74 kilometers) from Palawan late Friday.
According to monitoring by SeaLight, a maritime transparency project that monitors and reports activities in the South China Sea, Ke Xue San Hao has been surveying the areas south and east of Escoda (Sabina) Shoal in the West Philippine Sea since July 25.
