MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said on Friday that it was closely monitoring the cloud formations which may turn into a low pressure area (LPA).

The cloud clusters were sighted over areas in Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan), according to weather specialist Benison Estareja.

“We are closely monitoring the movement of these cloud clusters which may develop into shallow circulations or LPA,” Estareja said.

In the meantime, the Pagasa forecaster said the easterlies – winds coming from the east that pass through the Pacific Ocean that carry warm and humid weather – are affecting Southern Luzon and the eastern sections of Visayas and Mindanao.

“We could expect scattered rains and thunderstorms in these areas all throughout the day,” he said.

Over Metro Manila and the rest of the country, isolated downpours or thunderstorms would prevail due to the localized thunderstorms, the state-run weather agency said in its 5 a.m. advisory.
