The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has so far rejected the application for accreditation of more than 130 party-lists and political parties for the 2025 national and local elections (NLE), chairperson George Erwin Garcia said Thursday.
Garcia said the poll body was looking to complete the final list of party-lists before the end of August and to conduct the raffling of numbers for the eligible groups by the second week of September.
“Nira-raffle ‘yan, hindi kumpara sa national and local candidates na alphabetical. Sa party-lists by number, therefore ira-raffle natin ‘yan,” Garcia told reporters.
(We raffle the number because unlike the national and local candidates, their names were listed by numbers on the ballot.)
“Dapat matapos ang raffle before the end of Septemer dahil sa October 1-8 ay filing of candidacies ng lahat ng party-lists at kandidato,” he said.
(We are aiming to finish the raffle before the end of September because the filing of COCs will be on October 1-8.)
According to Garcia, the poll body would require the eligible party-lists to submit ten nominees and would no longer allow the submission of additional list of names.
“Sa guidelines na ilalabas, magre-require ng sampung pangalan lamang na isa-submit sa Comelec. Kapag naubos ang sampung nominees, hindi na tatanggap nang panibagong listahan,” he added.
(We will require 10 names for nominees. We will not accept another list.)
Among the common reason for the junking of registration includes the lack of requirements.
“Mahigit 130 so far ang nadi-dimiss ng Comelec na mg application for registration,” said Garcia.
(We have denied over 130 applications so far.)
“Kulang-kulang 200 ang nag-apply at ang na-accredit pa lamang ng Comelec so far ay mga 30 pa lamang. Ito na ang pinakamababa na na-accredit ng commission sa bawat elections since time immemorial,” he said.
(At least 200 applied and we only accredited 30. This is the lowest number so far.)
At least 29 cases and 17 cases for resolution of their respective motions for reconsideration were still pending before the poll body, Garcia added.
The Comelec is targeting to finish its resolution before the raffling of the numbers. A list of eligible party-lists and political parties will be posted on its website.
Meanwhile, Garcia reminded the on the August 30 deadline for the filing of sworn information update statement.
