Converge gets Ookla award for speed

Converge ICT Solutions Inc. on Tuesday said it garnered the Ookla Speedtest Award for having the fastest fixed network in the first half of 2024.

“In 2023, we took up the mantle of being the Fastest Internet Service Provider in the Philippines. This responsibility continues to be placed in our hands as we, again, were declared by Ookla as giving the best speed experience to Filipinos this first half,” Converge Chief Executive Officer and co-founder Dennis Anthony Uy said.

“We will not rest on our laurels, of course, and we will continue to stay ahead as we leap into the future,” he added.

The fiber and broadband technology provider was said to have recorded a speed score of 147.77, with top download speeds of 603.46 megabits per second (Mbps) and top upload speeds of 552.21 Mbps.

Meanwhile, PLDT Home Fiber earned a speed score of 131.47 with download speeds of 411.31 Mbps and upload speeds of 416.57 Mbps.

Globe gained a speed score of 92.11, with download speeds of 294.25 Mbps and upload speeds of 267.03 Mbps.

PLDT had a speed score of 88.95, with download speeds of 328.90 Mbps and upload speeds of 326.71 Mbps.

“This achievement is a direct result of our continuous network enhancements and product innovations. We’re not just chasing numbers and recognition; our goal is to offer fast, reliable, and tailor-fit products for different market segments, ensuring that every Filipino has access to world-class internet,” Converge Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer Benjamin Azada said.

Ookla said it compared 57,423,888 user-initiated tests taken from various Speedtest applications connected to a fixed network across the Philippines.

These included tests taken on mobile phones over a Wi-Fi connection.

Ookla also reported that Converge maintained the most consistent high-speed performance in most areas across its network in the first half for the second year in a row.

It also achieved the best latency time at 11.35 milliseconds for fixed networks during the same period.

“Overall, we’re working hard in the backend and frontend so we can create amazing digital experiences for every type of Converge customer,” Converge Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Jesus Romero said.

Converge’s share price was up by 46 centavos to close at P15.44 each on Tuesday.
