Who doesn’t know the music of December Avenue?

The five-piece band has become a staple in the Philippine indie pop and alternative rock scene. Known for its evocative lyrics, December Avenue has earned a loyal following with its relatable songs about love, life, and moving on.

Some of the group’s popular songs have been used as soundtracks for movies, including “Kung ‘Di Rin Lang Ikaw,” featuring Moira Dela Torre, which was the theme song for Kathryn Bernardo and Alden Richards’s 2019 blockbuster film Hello, Love, Goodbye. Other popular tracks include “Eroplanong Papel,” “Bulong,” “Sa Ngalan ng Pag-ibig,” and “Huling Sandali (Tayo Sa Huling Buwan).”

In 2019, December Avenue was Spotify’s Most Streamed Artist in the Philippines and is behind the Most-Streamed OPM Album of All Time, Langit Mong Bughaw.

Now, after 15 years, December Avenue is holding its first major concert. The event will take place on Aug. 30 at the MOA Arena and will be directed by Paulo Valenciano.

According to Valenciano, the concert aims to provide fans with an enhanced musical experience of the band.

“The vision was to give the audience the same feeling of why they like December Avenue’s songs, but with an elevated experience,” the director told Manila Standard Entertainment.

“I remember back in the day when their venue was Teatrino Promenade, we told each other that one day, we’re going to do MOA Arena. And now it’s happening,” Valenciano said.

“I’ve always seen them on the road to becoming one of the biggest bands. They deserve this. Their commitment to the quality of their music, their music videos, and the live experience of December Avenue is impressive. It’s no surprise to me that the band is now doing something of this scale, and the fact that it’s sold out is something they truly deserve,” he added.

As of this writing, the concert is already sold out, so they will open a new section – standing room only (SRO) – to accommodate fans hoping to catch December Avenue’s first major show.

The concert is titled “Sa Ilalim Ng Mga Bituin: December Avenue Concert.”

The band consists of Zel Bautista (vocals and guitar), Jem Manuel (guitar), Don Gregorio (bass), Jet Danao (drums and backing vocals), and Gelo Cruz (keyboards and backing vocals).

Together with musical director Nikko Rivera, December Avenue will perform with the City Lights Symphony Orchestra for the concert.

Fans will also hear their newest song “Magparaya” for the first time during the show.

“It is our gift for them. It will be part of the show,” Bautista shared.
