Singer-songwriter Devin Kennedy released his sophomore album, “In My Imagination.” The American singer is behind the successful hits “Forget About You,” “Something Bout That Feeling,” “Loose Change,” and “Falling For You,” with an average of two million monthly listeners.
Kennedy describes his sound as a mix of alternative, pop, and R&B, with lyrics that genuinely come from the heart. These days, he creates “genre-less” music where his sound varies and even overlaps, emphasizing that he’s satisfied as long as it sounds substantially pleasing.
“It’s my way of communicating with the world. Music is a universal language; it’s like smiling or laughing — we all can understand it and can’t live without it,” the musician shared in an email interview with Music Geek

Kennedy’s family introduced music in his early years when he learned to play the guitar with his father and attended a couple of concerts that eventually influenced him to pursue music.
“In 7th grade, I played my first live performance, playing drums in my school talent show; I walked off stage that day and knew I wanted to do that forever.”
He also mentioned the first two concerts he attended were of Paul McCartney and John Mayer, who heavily influenced him as a musician. Similarly, Kennedy named Laufey and Bruno Major as artists who inspired him.
Kennedy also found joy in preparing new music whenever he was with his friends during the process, “I’m so lucky to work with incredibly talented people, but putting in all those hours is more fun when doing it with your buddies. I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
The artists new 10-track album “In My Imagination,” showcased his euphonious vocals and heartfelt songwriting.
In particular, he composed each song on the acoustic guitar to complement and highlight the lyrics.
“This led me to create a whole sonic and lyrical world that feels light and airy at times, but also deep and emotional in other moments. I’m so proud of how it came together.”
Unlike his previous releases, Kennedy claimed that the songs directed the creative process for this album.
“Each song felt like a different emotional puzzle piece, and together, it felt like a complete journey; this is definitely my favorite project,” the artist shared.
When asked how he would prefer his listeners to feel after listening to the entire album, he answered, “I’d love for my listeners to feel understood and inspired, finding a sense of connection and comfort through the music.”
“I hope listeners know how much of myself I pour into my music—every song reflects my personal experiences and emotions that I try and craft with the hope of resonating deeply with them,” Kennedy sincerely expressed.
Looking ahead, fans can anticipate a forthcoming Asia tour from the artist.
“I’m so excited to visit Asia and play music! The fans have been supportive and incredibly patient these last few years.”
“I always have new music in the works that I’m excited to share; I’m also putting together the show for the ‘In My Imagination Tour,’ and it will be a blast. I can’t wait to see everyone!”
Ending the interview, Devin Kennedy had this to say to other aspiring musicians: “Enjoy the process. If you are productive and consistent, other things will fall into place. Beyond that, choose to work with people you trust completely; your music — your art is valuable. But, the people you choose to surround yourself with are more valuable.”
