Former Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (FFCCCII) president Henry Lim Bon Liong passed away on Friday, just a month short of his 73rd birthday.

“On behalf of the FFCCCII, I extend our deepest condolences on the untimely demise of our esteemed Honorary President, Dr. Henry Lim Bon Liong. His passing is a profound loss not only to our community and the business sector but to the entire Philippines,” the federation’s current president, Dr. Cecilio K. Pedro, said in a statement.

“His tireless efforts towards the dream of Philippine rice self-sufficiency through pioneering hybrid rice technology from China had left an indelible mark on our nation’s agriculture and have benefitted millions of Filipino farmers,” Pedro added.

He was described as an “exemplary philanthropist, a respected business and civic leader, the Father of Philippine Hybrid Rice, and a dynamic advocate for Philippine agriculture.”

Lim was recognized for his leadership “when he acted as an intermediary for the Philippine government to receive the first-ever timely delivery and donation of one million life-saving anti-COVID vaccines from the government of China.”

He was a graduate of the University of the Philippines Diliman College of Engineering and Harvard Business School.

“Dr. Henry Lim Bon Liong’s untimely demise is a great loss. His contributions to our community, to the business sector, and to the Philippines will never be forgotten. We mourn his loss deeply and extend our heartfelt sympathies to his family during this difficult time,” Pedro said.
