THE Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has hailed weightlifter Vanessa Sarno for the tough fight she showed at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
In a Facebook post, the DSWD expressed gratitude to the weightlifter, who is a daughter of a Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) household in Tagbilaran City, Bohol, for participating in the women’s 71-kilogram division weightlifting.
“Thank you very much for your fight Vanessa Sarno! Your participation in the women’s 71kg division weightlifting in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games is an inspiration to every Filipino, especially to 4Ps households,” the post reads.

It was learned that Sarno’s two younger siblings are 4Ps-monitored children while her mother, a solo parent, is the household head.
The DSWD cheered on Sarno’s Olympics journey and expressed pride in her being part of the Philippine Olympic Team.
“All 4Ps families were with you in your fight for the Philippines!” the DSWD said in the same Facebook post.
Sarno is a two-time South East Asian Games gold medalist.
4Ps is the national poverty reduction strategy and human capital investment program that provides conditional cash transfer to poor households for a maximum period of seven years, to improve health, nutrition and education.
DSWD Secretary Rexlon Gatchalian said that there are 4.3 million household-beneficiaries nationwide that are receiving conditional cash grants under the anti-poverty program.
