Super Typhoon Carina caused severe flooding in the Greater Manila Area, submerging many neighborhoods and forcing thousands to evacuate.

In Tondo, Manila, Grace Remodano described the floodwaters as “higher than a person’s height,” with levels reaching above their heads. “Lahat ng gamit namin nabasa (all of our things got wet in the flood). Ang hirap po talaga (it was so hard for us),” Remodano said.

The typhoon brought torrential rains and strong winds, resulting in power outages, water disruptions, and damage to homes. Approximately 4.8 million people were affected, with 108,000 still in evacuation centers as of this week.

In response, Procter & Gamble’s Ariel launched the “Cycles of Care” community program to provide relief. The initiative, in partnership with Save5 Laundromat and Beko, offered free laundry services to over 13,000 families. The program aimed to help those who lost access to clean water and electricity by washing stained clothes, bedding, and blankets.

“Ariel’s ‘Cycles of Care’ helps families restore normalcy by providing clean clothes and bedding,” said Ralph Morales, Ariel Philippines Brand Director. The program saw 100 Save5 branches participate, processing over 27,000 washing machine cycles and cleaning more than 216,000 kg of soiled clothing using Ariel Laundry Detergent.

Ryan Lim, President of Save5 Laundromat, praised the initiative: “Ariel’s ‘Cycles of Care’ is a meaningful way to support communities affected by the typhoon. P&G and Ariel Philippines’ commitment to helping during these challenging times is truly inspiring.”

Beko supported the program by supplying washing machines for free laundry services in Barangay Tumana, Marikina City, another area severely impacted by the flooding. Ghie Papa, Beko Philippines Brand Communications Manager, highlighted the importance of the program: “We’re glad to assist Marikeños through Ariel’s ‘Cycles of Care’ with our trusted laundry brand.”

Beneficiaries expressed their gratitude, with many leaving laundromats with clean clothes and blankets.

“Nakatipid po kami sa paglalaba sa tulong ng Ariel (we were able to save money and time with the help of Ariel). Ang laki po ng pasasalamat namin (we can’t thank them enough),” said Grace. Eden San Diego, also from Tondo, added that the program was a significant help for her family in focusing on cleaning their home.

P&G also contributed health and hygiene products, such as soap, shampoo, and diapers, to affected areas. These donations were made in collaboration with organizations like the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Philippine Red Cross (PRC), Manila Water Foundation, World Vision Philippines, and the GMA Kapuso Foundation.
