SEN. Bong Go reiterated his call for vigilance and emphasized the importance of following the Department of Health’s (DoH) guidelines to prevent the spread of health threats such as mpox in the country.

Drawing from the country’s experience with the Covid-19 pandemic, the chairman of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography highlighted the need for diligence and preparedness to avoid a similar public health crisis.

“First of all, let’s follow the DoH’s warning. If the suspect needs to be quarantined, then quarantine. [If] you know you have symptoms, so let’s always follow it and prevent it from spreading,” Go said in Filipino in a radio interview on Sunday.

“It’s the Department of Health’s job to prepare for this disease, the possible spread of monkeypox in our country…. I hope it doesn’t reach an outbreak,” Go said.

He shared how he resisted the proposed budget cuts for the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine for 2019, which became crucial in the country’s fight against Covid-19.

On the emerging mpox threat, Go advised against complacency, urging the public to take the situation seriously as prevention is always better than cure.
