President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. assured that ‘heads will roll’ following the departure of former Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo, whose exit raises concern over corruption in the country’s judicial system.
In a statement, President Marcos emphasized that the government would leave no stone unturned in investigating those responsible for aiding Guo’s escape.
“Let me be clear: Heads will roll,” President Marcos said in his statement.
“We will expose the culprits who have betrayed the people’s trust and aided in her flight. A full-scale investigation is already underway, and those responsible will be suspended and held accountable to the fullest extent of the law,” he added.
Guo reportedly left the Philippines on August 19 using her Philippine passport.
According to the Bureau of Immigration, she flew to Singapore and then traveled to Indonesia.
Mr. Marcos stressed that there is no place for corruption in his administration as he warned those who prioritize personal gain over their duty to the Filipino people.
“There is no room in this government for anyone who places personal interest above serving the Filipino people with honor, integrity, and justice,” he added.
The Office of the President has instructed the Department of Justice and the Department of Foreign Affairs to proceed with the cancellation of Philippine passports belonging to Guo and her siblings.
The Senate has announced arrest warrants for Guo and her family due to their failure to participate in the investigation into illegal activities related to Philippine Offshore Gaming Operations (POGOs).
Guo faces charges of qualified trafficking and is reportedly implicated in POGOs in the country.
