Historical Commission holds National Heroes’ Day celebration at Libingan ng mga Bayani

The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) celebrated National Heroes’ Day at the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Taguig with the theme “Kabayanihan ng Pilipino sa Panahon ng Pagbabago.”

The celebration included a flag-raising ceremony and a wreath-laying at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, led by President Bongbong Marcos, along with General Romeo S. Brawner Jr., Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

The event was also attended by House Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez, Executive Secretary Lucas P. Bersamin, Secretary of National Defense Gilbert C. Teodoro Jr., NHCP Chair Regalado Trota Jose Jr., and Taguig City Mayor Maria Laarni Lopez Cayetano.

Diplomatic representatives from various countries, war veterans with their families, and other officials and staff from national and local government agencies were also present.

According to the NHCP, National Heroes’ Day was first commemorated on Dec. 30, 1898, to honor Dr. Jose Rizal and other heroes who fought for the country’s freedom from Spain.
