The birthday celebration of Grace M. Angeles, the owner and CEO of SCD Skin Care, was an extravagant event held at Instagram-worthy Sundowners Beach Resort in Botolan, Zambales. The occasion also featured the launch of SCD’s newest product, the Retinol Serum.
In our conversation with the entrepreneur, she shared that the birthday celebration was not just about her special day but also a way to appreciate the distributors and partners who have contributed to the growth of her brand.
SCD, originally known as Skincare Depot, began in 2006 by offering a variety of soaps, including organic whitening and healing options made from papaya extracts. The brand was officially established as SCD in 2016.
“Our best-seller, the SCD Peeling Skin Lotion, truly put us on the map. We were the first to introduce a peeling lotion that could be used on both the face and body,” Angeles explained.
The Retinol Serum, which took two years to develop, was thoroughly studied before it was released to the market.
Although the skincare industry is booming now, with many becoming millionaires in the business, Angeles mentioned that she started from zero.
“For more than three years, I didn’t start with an immediate boom. I went through all the challenges that a business owner typically faces,” she recalled. “But that’s a good thing because now I know how to reach people, how to secure their investment, and what they need.”
Now that the company is doing better, she is happy that SCD has been able to help many distributors.
“Our distributors are becoming wealthier than I am. That’s the beauty of it,” she added.
In 2022, she signed Lovi Poe as SCD’s first celebrity ambassador, which significantly boosted the brand’s recognition.
“We’ve been with Ms. Lovi for two years. We renewed her contract on May 21, 2024. We really love her because she’s so kind and beautiful,” Angeles proudly said of Lovi.
When asked about Lovi’s effectiveness as an endorser, Angeles emphasized that Lovi’s character is very elegant, even though SCD Skin Care’s products are designed for the masses.
“Despite her sophistication, Lovi consistently connects with the brand’s distributors and resonates with the broader audience,” the brand CEO noted and added that she wanted Heart Evangelista and Piolo Pascual to be part of her growing family of product endorsers.
