Inaprubahan ng Commission on Appointments (CA) nitong Miyerkoles ang ad interim appointment ni dating Senador Sonny Angara bilang kalihim ng Department of Education (DepEd).
Pinagtibay ni Senate President at CA Chairperson Francis “Chiz” Escudero ang pag-apruba sa kompirmasyon ni Angara, mula sa mosyon ni CA Majority Floor Leader at Camarines Sur Representative Luis Raymund Villafuerte Jr.
Agad na inaprubahan din ni CA Committee on Education chairperson Senator Raffy Tulfo nitong Miyerkoles ng umaga ang kompirmasyon ni Angara, at inirekomenda na ituloy na sa plenaryo.
Bukod sa pagiging dating senador, dati ring kongresista si Angara na naging representante ng lalawigan ng Aurora.
Binigyan-halaga ng mga senador at kongresista na kasapi ng CA ang malawak na karanasan ni Angara sa lehislatura sa usapin ng edukasyon at ekonomiya.
“With these reasons not even meaning to mention the Secretary’s academic achievements, awards, and public service work, I know that Sec. Sonny will be more than capable of leading the country to a better future for the students that he will take under his wing,” ayon kay Tulfo.
Ayon sa DepEd, ilan sa mga nagawa ni Angara para sa edukasyon nang mambabatas pa siya ang pagsusulong sa kapakanan at pangangailangan ng guro at estudyante, katulad ng Kabalikat sa Pagtuturo Act, Excellence in Teacher Education Act, Inclusive Education Act, Alternative Learning System Act, Free College Law, Universal Access to Tertiary Education Act, Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013, Anti-Bullying Law, at Student Fare Discount.
