MANILA, Philippines — The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Thursday announced that a South Korean was arrested in Angeles City, Pampanga after trying to illegally broadcast movies and shows from his country to the Philippines.

The NBI said the Korean citizen was identified Kim Jongsik and is facing charges of violation of Section 177 in relation to Section 211 of Republic Act (RA) 8293 (Intellectual Property Rights Division) and in relation to RA 10175 (Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012).

NBI Director Jaime Santiago said the operation to arrest Kim, who was issued with an Interpol Red Notice, stemmed from “alleged proliferation through sale and distribution of Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) devices with 365TV application, which unlawfully stream and rebroadcast their movies and TV programs in the Philippines without their consent.”

Upon arresting Kim on Tuesday, the NBI also recovered 37 units of IPTV devices, 49 pieces of IPTV remote control, desktop computer and CPU, cellular phones, USB flash drives, sticker stamps bearing the mark 365TV and sales invoice for IPTV subscriptions.
