MANILA, Philippines — The state-run weather agency said on Thursday that the low pressure area (LPA) spotted off extreme Northern Luzon would likely intensify into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours but which may also exit quickly.
The LPA was estimated some 1, 375 kilometers east of the region or inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility and would be named “Dindo,” weather specialist Robert Badrina of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services (Pagasa) said in a 5 a.m. briefing.
For the moment, the Pagasa forecaster said the LPA has no direct effect in the country and the rains being experienced in parts of the country are caused by the southwest monsoon or “habagat.”
“Habagat is brining isolated and scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in many areas including Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon and Western Visayas,” he said.
Meanwhile, the rest of the country would be experiencing partly cloudy to cloudy skies due to the localized thunderstorms, the state weather bureau said.
