(UPDATE) OPERATIONS of the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT1) will be temporarily suspended for three weekends this month.
According to LRT1 private operator Light Rail Manila Corp. (LRMC), the suspension will facilitate preparations for the target Extension Phase 1’s target opening in the fourth quarter this year.
The temporary weekend suspensions will be on August 17 to 18; 24 to 25; and Aug. 31 to Sept. 1, 2024.
LRMC disclosed that during these periods, no commercial train service will be available from Fernando Poe Jr. Station to Baclaran Station.
It said the three-weekend closures aim to integrate the existing LRT1 signaling system with the Cavite Extension; perform systems operation demonstration tests; and conduct the necessary operational exercises to ensure the safety and reliability of the extended system.
LRMC General Manager Enrico Benipayo said that this system migration is a critical step in ensuring the safe and efficient operations of the extended LRT1 line.
Benipayo said that the temporary closures will result in long-term convenience once the extended LRT1 line becomes operational.
“We are working diligently to complete this project as safely, efficiently, and quickly as possible,” he said.
He said that the LRMC, together with the Department of Transportation (DoTr) and Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA), has coordinated with various government partners in order to support the affected commuters.
