MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) fined the owners of 13,052 unregistered vehicles for July alone.

The owners of 11,521 vehicles were issued traffic violation tickets while 1,531 vehicles were impounded and their owners notified.

A motorist driving an unregistered vehicle could be fined P10,000.

LTO chief Vigor Mendoza said that they will continue to strictly implement the “no registration, no travel” policy to ensure the safety of road users.

“I would like to remind our motorists that vehicle ownership comes with an obligation to register and renew the registration,” he said.

Mendoza noted that vehicle registration can guarantee the roadworthiness of the units, particularly important for public transportation.

For the month of July, the apprehended vehicles included 1,478 private vans and 23 vans used for public transportation.

There were also 355 trucks and 95 sport utility vehicles that were apprehended, as well as 69 public utility jeepneys and eight buses used for public transportation.

The LTO-Calabarzon had the most number of apprehended unregistered vehicles with 5,204 apprehensions and 403 impounded vehicles.

Meanwhile, 223 vehicles were apprehended during anti-colorum operations for the month of July.
