To commemorate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and the Philippines, the Embassy of Malaysia in Manila, in partnership with One Ayala, the Makati City Council, and Artemis Art, is hosting an Art Expo from Aug. 30 to Sept. 1 at Level 2, Concourse, One Ayala, Makati City.
Themed “Celebrating Friendship Through Art – A Kaleidoscope of 60 Years of Diplomatic Relations Between Malaysia and the Philippines”, the Art Expo will showcase the creations of both Malaysian and Filipino artists.
Notable Malaysian artists participating include Dato Prof Tajuddin Ismail, SC Shekar, Juhari Said, Anniketyni Madian, and Syahbandi Samat, while Filipino artists featured are Anthony Palomo, Ramon Orlina, Francisco Guerrero, Dennis Bato, and Niakie.
In addition to the art exhibits, attendees will enjoy cultural performances by Touché Production, hailing from Malaysia. There will also be opportunities for visitors to engage in panel discussions featuring some of the showcased artists.
On Aug. 31, the discussion will focus on “Perspectives on Contemporary Southeast Asian Art,” followed by “Perspectives on Contemporary Photography from Two Generations of Photography” on Sept. 1. The Art Expo is free and open to the public, with an opening ceremony scheduled for Aug. 30.
Expected to attend are His Excellency Dato’ Abdul Malik Melvin Castelino, Ambassador of Malaysia to the Republic of the Philippines; Hon. Abigail S. Binay-Campos, Mayor of Makati City; various government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, and other dignitaries.
Through the Art Expo, the Embassy of Malaysia in Manila aims to foster appreciation for art, particularly that of Malaysia and the Philippines.
