President Ferdinand ”Bongbong” Marcos Jr. praised Filipina boxer Nesthy Petecio for securing the bronze medal for the Philippines in the 2024 Paris Olympics after a semifinal finish in the women’s 57 kg division.
In a social media post, Marcos said the entire Philippines is proud of Petecio’s latest achievement in the boxing arena.
”Congratulations, Nesthy! Thank you for bringing home the bronze medal for the Philippines,” Marcos said.
”You’ve truly shown the world how Filipinos never back down from a challenge. The whole country is proud of you! Taas kamao, para sa boxingerong Pilipino,” Marcos added.
Petecio became a two-time Olympic medalist, joining a prestigious list of Filipino athletes who have won more than one medal in the Olympic Games.
Despite falling short against 20-year-old Julia Szeremeta of Poland, Petecio became one of the most decorated Olympians in the history of the Philippines.
To recall, Petecio already held a silver medal from the Tokyo Olympics three years ago. –VAL, GMA Integrated News
