President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered for at least one soil testing center per region to better guide farmers following a Department of Agriculture (DA) recommendation for soil mapping.
During a Malacañang meeting on Tuesday, the President highlighted the lack of soil analysis centers in the country.
“We’re really lacking in soil analysis. We can’t tell the farmers how much fertilizer to use. We can’t give them any advice because we don’t know the condition of the soil ourselves,” Mr. Marcos said.
“That (soil mapping) actually applies to all crops,” he added.
The DA plans to increase the number of facilities to 12 by next year, citing their efforts to increase the number of government soil testing centers.
