As the P-pop genre continues to gain traction, new boy group New:ID is set to introduce their unique identity to the public, bringing refreshing concepts and expressing a genuine love for music.

New:ID recently held a media conference for their official debut in the Philippines. Hosted by LAPILLUS member Chanty, the group presented two songs — GHOST and The Day We Meet Again (Tagalog VER).

Formed by South Korean label MLD Entertainment, which also manages Hori7on, Lapillus, and Cheetah, New:ID consists of five members: Wilson, Macky, L, Thad, and Jom. They were discovered through the reality show “Dream Makers,” where they placed 10th to 16th. The five members then signed with MLD Entertainment to form their group. Their name signifies “New Identity,” highlighting their approach of embodying a new persona for each song they release.

During the presscon, the group expressed their excitement about joining the thriving roster of P-pop groups in the Philippines. “We started from scratch, and now, we are debuting,” Thad, their leader, said.

Wilson added, “We are truly honored and thankful to our fans for waiting patiently for our debut. It means a lot to us.”

New:ID released E.R. as a pre-debut promotional single in September 2023.

When asked about their goals as a group, Macky stated that they aim to be one of the top P-pop groups in the Philippines and eventually achieve international success.

They emphasized that their rigorous training under South Korean professionals, who are experts in singing, dancing, and performing, has given them an edge. The quintet also learned the discipline and attitude needed to become proper idols, which manifests in their image as a group.

During their performances, New:ID showcases their versatility and stage presence. The highlight of GHOST is the juxtaposition between the song’s lyrics and their performance. The group delivers powerful vocals and choreography while telling a compelling story about unrequited love. Despite the intense performance, they find a perfect balance to convey the emotions of a one-sided relationship.

Fans of K-pop groups like Infinite, Shinee, and Bigbang will enjoy New:ID, as they draw inspiration from these second generation K-pop icons.

Meanwhile, their other digital single, The Day We Meet Again (Tagalog VER), presents a completely different concept. L, who was involved in the creative process, shared that their company gives them the creative freedom to showcase their artistry.

“Sa ballad song po namin, I helped in writing it po,” L said. He expressed his gratitude to MLD for allowing them to contribute to their debut creatively. “We’re thankful to MLD because they gave us the creative freedom to be able to contribute to our debut.”

The Day We Meet Again is a ballad that highlights the group’s vocal talents. It also showcases their rapping abilities, another of their strengths. The song conveys the sorrow of being separated from a loved one and imagining a reuinon with them.

New:ID’s concept revolves around their evolving identity with each comeback, as they aim to explore various genres and concepts. Thad added, “New:ID’s unique identity is that all members are unique within themselves, wala po sa amin na masasabi niyong, ‘Hala magkamukha sila, hala magkatulad sila.’”

Looking ahead, New:ID also plans to experiment with more mature and sexier concepts. Additionally, the leader emphasized that despite their respective roles in the group, all members are versatile. “Knowing that we have different roles, itong mga position na ito ay kung saan po kami pinaka magaling. But, at the end of the day, we are trained to do everything po. Magkakaroon po kami ng unique appeal sa ating masa, lahat kaya po naming gawin.”

Thad said that their mindset has alerady shifted from surviving their survival show to thriving as New:ID, with the goal of becoming a P-pop pride both in the Philippines and internationally.

True to their name, New:ID promises to present a new identity with every music release, making them a group to watch in the evolving P-pop landscape.

The new P-pop group is set to continue their debut showcase mall tour with performances at SM City Sta. Mesa on Aug. 10. Additionally, they will grace the stage as a pre-show special performer at the P-Pop Power Concert on Aug. 18 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
