MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) suspended the expanded number coding scheme on Wednesday, after Malacanang suspended classes and government work in the National Capital Region (NCR). The suspension of the Expanded Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program (UVVRP) comes amid the continuous rains brought by the southwest monsoon, the MMDA said in Filipino in its official social media account.

Malacanang suspended class and work in government as recommended by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

The NDRRMC said that the suspension “will prevent any untoward incidents and will ensure the safety of the general public.”

On the other hand, Malacanang said that work and class suspension in private companies and schools, would be upon the discretion of their respective heads, the NDRRMC said.
