The Bureau of Quarantine (BOQ) at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) is now requiring arriving and departing travelers to declare if they have experienced rashes, vesicles, or blisters in the past month — in order to prevent the entry of more mpox cases in the Philippines.
The Department of Health (DOH) made a minor change to screening questions for travelers in the electronic travel (eTravel) form, which should be completed before arriving or departing airports.
The eTravel System is a digital platform for collecting data on passengers arriving in and departing from the Philippines. It will be used for border control, health surveillance, and economic data analysis.
Passengers departing from or arriving in the Philippines are required to register on the eTravel portal 72 hours before their flights. Travelers should check “yes or no” when asked if they have been sick in the past 30 days, experienced rashes, vesicles, or blisters.
Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) General Manager Eric Ines supported the BOQ’s move, saying they are willing to provide airport medical staff and necessary equipment like ambulances if needed.
BOQ officials urged travelers to be honest in answering the questions included in the eTravel form in order to know the traveler’s history before arriving at the airports.
