The National Bureau of Investigation has arrested two employees of a dialysis center after they were found to have been using and selling chemicals not approved by the Food and Drug Administration.

According to John Consulta’s report on “Saks,” the NBI-NCR implemented the search warrant in Dasmariñas, Cavite after receiving information that the dialysis center was using the chemical and selling it to other dialysis centers.

During the operation, they were able to uncover 50 boxes of Diacid, an unapproved drug used for the dialysis for patients with kidney issues.

“Kung ito ay hindi subok at hindi registered, wala tayong matibay na pruweba na mabisa ito at nakakagamot at pwede pa maging sanhi ng mas [ma]lalang sakit ng pasyente,” said NBI-NCR Regional Director Rommel Vallejo.

(if this is not tested and registered, we have no concrete proof that it works and that it can heal, and might cause the patient’s condition to worsen)

Authorities were also able to seize pertinent documents leading to other centers that buy and use said chemicals during the raid.

Meanwhile, they were also able to find a room full of empty gallons of diacid suspected to have already been used for their own dialysis patients.

The two employees found inside the dialysis center had undergone inquest procedures and will be charged for violating the Philippine Pharmacy Act. —Jiselle Anne C. Casucian/NB, GMA Integrated News
