I RECENTLY conducted a workshop for the Department of Tourism (DoT) Caraga Region’s Training on Online Marketing for Mabuhay Accommodation Establishments (MAE) in Agusan del Sur.

These establishments can include various accommodation types such as hotels, resorts, inns, bed and breakfasts, guesthouses, and more. A common observation for most MAEs is the lack of websites where they usually rely on their Facebook Page. Often, that is also not updated.

The foundation of a strong online presence is a well-designed website. Your website should be user-friendly, mobile-responsive, and optimized for search engines. It typically includes all necessary information, such as contact details, services offered and pricing. High-quality images and a clean, attractive design are essential to capture the attention of visitors. Fast load times are crucial, as slow websites can deter potential guests. Make sure to resize photos taken from mobile phones and digital cameras, as they are usually more than 1 MB in size.

Another important reminder for MAEs is to be registered on Google Business to increase their visibility on search results and maps.

Search engine optimization (SEO) plays a critical role in making your website more visible on search engine results pages. By incorporating relevant keywords and optimizing title tags, meta descriptions, headers, and images, you can improve your website’s ranking.

Content creation and management regularly updating your website with fresh and engaging content is vital to attracting more visitors. This can include blog posts, local travel guides, guest stories and special offers. Organize your content using categories and tags for easy navigation, and plan your content to ensure consistency. A mix of text, images and videos can make your content more engaging and shareable. Staying updated on travel trends and updating your content accordingly helps keep it relevant and interesting.

As coming up with content is usually not easy, you can use artificial intelligence tools like ChatGPT or Google Gemini to help you brainstorm for developing your website write-up, search keywords, blog posts, articles and likes. These AI tools can generate content ideas, create drafts, and even optimize text for SEO, saving you time and effort. By using AI as a brainstorming tool, you can maintain a steady flow of high-quality content that resonates with your audience and boosts your online presence.

AI tools can also assist in analyzing content performance, and identifying which topics and formats resonate most with your audience. Each platform has its strengths and demographics. For instance, Facebook is great for community building, Instagram for visual content, X (formerly Twitter) for real-time updates, LinkedIn for professional networking, and TikTok for reaching younger audiences.

On Facebook, use interactive posts such as polls, quizzes and contests to engage your audience. Create and manage groups related to your niche to foster a sense of community. Utilize targeted ads to reach a specific audience segment.

On LinkedIn, share industry insights, company updates and professional achievements. Connect with industry professionals and participate in groups and discussions. Publish articles and posts to establish your brand as an industry leader.

On TikTok, reach younger audiences with engaging, short-form videos. Utilize it to showcase your accommodation establishment through quick tours, guest testimonials and local attractions. The platform’s creative tools, such as filters, effects and music, can help make your content more appealing and entertaining.

Influencer marketing partnering with travel influencers can also help boost your visibility. Influencer marketing involves collaborating with influencers who have a strong following to promote your products or services. It leverages the trust and following that influencers have built with their audience.

MAEs can explore this to expand reach and build credibility. By partnering with influencers whose audience aligns with your target market, you can create authentic and compelling content that resonates with potential guests. This collaboration can take various forms, such as sponsored posts, product reviews, or social media takeovers, all of which can significantly boost your visibility and engagement.

You can also participate in trending challenges and create your own branded challenges to encourage user-generated content.
