Magnolia notched its first win in the PBA Governors’ Cup as it defeated Converge, 105-93, on Friday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Hotshots led by as much as 21, 89-68, early in the fourth period before Converge cut the deficit to within five, 98-93, with less than two minutes remaining in the said frame. However, Magnolia made sure to go all-out late with baskets from Ian Sangalang, a triple from Mark Barroca, and a layup from Glenn Robinson III to seal the bounce back win after falling to Meralco in its first game.
Import Robinson had 28 points, five rebounds, two assists, and two steals, while Paul Lee led the locals with 14 points, seven assists, four rebounds, and a steal as Magnolia improved to 1-1 in Group A. Ian Sangalang and Jerrick Ahanmisi also chipped in 14 points apiece.
Scotty Hopson posted 26 points, eight boards, five assists, and a steal to lead the FiberXers who slipped to 1-1, while Kevin Racal had 17 points.
