Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) General Manager Melquiades “Mel” Robles filed defamation and invasion of privacy complaints against vlogger Claire Contreras, also known as “Maharlika,” before the Central District Court of California in the United States.

Based on the 36-paged complaint, Robles and his wife Sherwil said they have been subjected to “malicious and defamatory attacks” by Contreras through her YouTube channel called Boldyak TV, which have caused “substantial harm to the reputations of the Robleses and diminished their esteem in their community and country.”

The Robles couple filed complaints against the vlogger for defamation and defamation per se; and false light invasion of privacy before a California court on July 15, 2024.

“In more than 20 separate videos that were posted to the Internet and made available to the public, Ms. Contreras falsely accused the Robleses of everything from contract killing and assisting terrorists to stealing from the Filipino people,” the complaint read.

“Her posts have extended to include images of the Robleses’ minor daughter, recklessly posted without concern for the harm the Robleses and their children are exposed to. Ms. Contreras’ posts have made Sherwil in particular afraid for the safety and well-being of her family, and especially, her children.”

The Robleses accuse the vlogger of a “demonstrably false smear campaign” against them that began in December 2023.

Contreras, who is a resident of Los Angeles, California, has 325,000 subscribers on her Boldyak TV YouTube page.

At a press conference, Robles admitted that he and his family tried to keep their peace for the longest time, but ultimately decided to seek redress from the Court when they realized that Contreras seemingly has no plans of stopping her attacks.

“For reasons unknown to us, she continues to deliberately spread malicious lies against us, while also calling me various names that were meant to deride, and denigrate my reputation,” the PCSO official said.

GMA News Online reached out to Contreras via email and through her social media accounts for her side on the matter. We will update this story once she responds. —RF, GMA Integrated News
