The Bureau of Customs and Department of Finance are working with the ASEAN-USAID Partnership Program to develop the next-generation ASEAN Single Window.

The collaboration aims to significantly enhance the Philippines’ role in regional trade facilitation.

A recent meeting, led by DOF acting assistant secretary Angelica Sarmiento and BOC acting deputy commissioner Michael Fermin brought together key stakeholders to discuss the policy, legal and technical aspects of the new ASW.

The Philippines has been actively addressing challenges in electronic document exchange with trading partners and the current ASW.

Fermin proposed several enhancements for the ASEAN Single Window system, including improving its compatibility with global trade standards, developing a user-friendly mobile version and implementing rigorous data quality checks.

Further suggestions focused on enhancing data security, expanding electronic document exchanges and improving accessibility for micro, small and medium enterprises.

The ASEAN-USAID Partnership Program will present the intermediate report on the new generation ASW study at the 68th Technical Working Group Meeting, scheduled for Sept. 10 to 13 in Cebu City.

“This partnership underscores the BOC’s dedication to advancing trade facilitation and strengthening the Philippines’ role in ASEAN and global trade,” BOC Commissioner Bienvenido Y. Rubio said.

He said the collaboration aims to drive significant improvements in trade processes.
