Three members of an alleged organized crime group involved in robberies at convenience stores have been arrested at a checkpoint in Quezon City.

According to Marisol Abdurahman’s report in “Saksi” on Friday, the suspects have convenience store uniforms which they use to pass themselves off as shop saff.

“Kapag pumasok sila, undetected and all, hindi na sila ise-secure o hindi na sila che-checkin ng mga security guard doon,” said National Capital Region Police Office chief PMGen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr.

(When they enter the store, they are undetected. They are not being checked by the security guards.)

Seized from the suspects’ getaway vehicle were various equipment for their crime such as guns, a hammer, cellphones, convenience store employee uniforms, among others.

The vaults of the convenience stores are also being targeted during the suspects’ robberies, the report said.

“Kapag baba sa kanila sa sasakyan, mawawala yung sasakyan. Then after committing the heist, they will take the taxi or jeep, iikot-ikot ‘yun, magkakahiwalay. Then they will go back to the Fortuner na sasakyan,” said Nartatez.

(Once they are dropped off, their getaway vehicle will flee. Then after committing the heist, they will take the taxi or jeep separately. Then they will go back to their Fortuner vehicle.)

Aside from Metro Manila, the crime group is also conducting robberies in other regions such as Central Luzon, Calabarzon, and even up to the Cordillera region.

Quezon City Police District director Police Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan said the group’s leader is among the watchlist of intelligence units in Central Luzon, and two of his cohorts are involved in the “budol-budol” scheme.

Authorities are still looking for eight other members. While those who were already arrested will face charges for robbery, hold-up, and illegal possession of firearms and explosives. —Vince Ferreras/NB, GMA Integrated News
