JUSTICE Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla lauded the continuing education for public attorneys, an initiative by Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) chief Persida Rueda-Acosta.
“Imagine, it’s already on its 8th Mandatory Continuing Legal Education congress and we praise the PAO chief for such an initiative. At the DoJ (Department of Justice), we just started our first similar project last year when I assumed the post,” Remulla said during the national convention for the public attorneys at the Philippine International Convention Center.
Remulla acknowledged the need for more public defenders, noting an estimated 7 million poor Filipinos were in need of free legal service.
“Your mandate is not an easy one. Providing reliable, appropriate and immediate legal service to the marginalized Filipinos is a monumental challenge, but it’s also an opportunity to demonstrate your resilience, integrity and compassion,” he said.
Remulla added that the convention of public attorneys was a testament to PAO’s commitment to improve legal service for the less-fortunate Filipinos.
