A vehicle that was stolen using the ‘rentangay’ modus hit a van and a tricycle as the suspect tried to escape from authorities in Cubao.
According to Emil Sumangil’s exclusive report on “24 Oras,” the vehicle was rented for P3,000 a day but was never returned to the owner.
“It was rented last August 26, following day August 27, ‘yung involved na motor vehicle, posted na sa Marketplace, for sale for P250,000,” said Police Colonel Joel Casupanan, chief of the PNP Highway Patrol Group’s Task Force Limbas.
(It was rented on August 26. The following day, August 27, the involved motor vehicle was already posted on Marketplace for sale for P250,000.)
Police contacted the suspect and pretended to be buyers of the stolen vehicle.
According to the HPG, the suspect previously had a case related to car theft.
During the chase, the suspect tried to escape and hit a tricycle and a passenger van.
When arrested, the suspect said he got scared so he tried to flee.
“Natakot po ako, kasi mostly ang ina-ano ko, mabubugbog,” the suspect said.
“Pero pinagsisihan ko po yun, alam ko na mali, dahil sa pera kaya ko nagawa… Pagpasensyahan niyo na po ako,” he added.
(I was scared because I thought I was going to be beaten up… But I regret it. I know it’s wrong. I did it for the money… Please forgive me.)
The authorities said the suspect will face multiple charges.
“Violation ng Anti-Carnapping law, reckless imprudence resulting to multiple physical injuries. We have received complaints from Baguio City and Ilocandia Region,” Casupanan said.—Sherylin Untalan/NB, GMA Integrated News
