Former Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) chairperson Teddy Casiño on Wednesday announced that he will run for Senate in the 2025 midterm elections as part of the Makabayan bloc’s slate.

(We want a proper and clean leadership. We want to get rid of graft and corruption in the government and to prioritize decent jobs, education, health services, and housing.)

The former Bayan Muna Party-list representative added that he would want to challenge political dynasties in the upper chamber.

(Let’s not let parents and children, siblings, and other relatives make the Senate a family business. Let’s not vote for candidates just because of their popularity or their willingness to be slaves of those above them.)

(We don’t need to choose between the administration ticket of the Marcos dynasty and the bogus opposition ticket of the Duterte dynasty. They are just both bringing rotten politics.)

Meanwhile, Makabayan welcomed Casiño’s candidacy for senator, calling it “a significant step in the ongoing effort to elect progressives in government positions.”

Other candidates in Makabayan’s senatorial slate are ACT-Teachers Party-list Representative France Castro, Gabriela Party-list Representative Arlene Brosas, Kilusang Mayo Uno secretary general Jerome Adonis, former National Anti-Poverty Commission lead convenor Liza Maza, and Pamalakaya secretary general Ronnel Arambulo.

Makabayan earlier said that it will field 12 senatorial candidates in next year’s elections and will push for wage hike, regularization of workers, P50,000 entry level salary for teachers, among others. — BM, GMA Integrated News
