AN official of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) on Monday invited the public to witness this year’s Philippine National Skills Competition (PNSC) and World Cafe of Opportunities (WCO).

The PNSC is set on Aug. 21 to 25, 2024 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City, where over 200 individuals will compete in 25 skills, including cybersecurity, information network cabling, IT network systems administration, IT software solutions for business, Web technologies, electronics, carpentry, mechatronics, welding, cabinet making, and cooking.

“The PNSC is anchored on a theme, which is about empowering the future, advancing skills. We will also showcase technologies,” Tesda-National Capital Region Director Jovencio Ferrer said in the Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon briefing.

Tesda Deputy Director General Vidal Villanueva III, in the same briefing, said President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. had been very supportive in terms of providing the needed budget for the PNSC, adding that they had to buy new equipment for this.

Winners of the PNSC will get P20,000 to P30,000 cash prizes and will have the chance to compete in the Asean Skills Competition that the Philippines is hosting next year.

Vidal added they also invited senior high school students from the National Capital Region and nearby provinces.

“Aside from showing them the different skills areas, we will also teach them how to prepare a resume, coach them how to answer job interviews, and how to dress properly as they appear before the employers,” he said.

Meanwhile, Vidal said on August 25, Tesda will hold the WCO to coincide with the National Tech-Voc Day.

Although he didn’t specify the venue, Vidal said the WCO would gather industry partners to conduct job interviews and hiring.

The WCO is an avenue where applicants can be hired on the spot, and where Tesda graduates could get information about the programs they could avail of and job opportunities from partner companies and government agencies.
