1.6M people affected by ‘Enteng,’ monsoon rains

THE National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said more than 1.6 million people were affected by the rains unleashed by Tropical Storm Enteng and the southwest monsoon or habagat.

In its latest report, the council said 1,610,322 people, or 410,371 families, in the regions of Ilocos, Cagayan, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Bicol, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Cordillera, and Metro Manila were affected.

The majority of those affected — 1,092,422 — are in Bicol.

The NDRRMC said 36,399 or 8,842 families in that region were staying in 297 evacuation centers.

The death toll from Enteng and monsoon rains stood at 13, with 15 people missing, and 11 injured.

The Office of Civil Defense reported 15 dead, 21 missing, and 15 wounded.

Damage to infrastructure was P63,454,392, and P1,231,420 for agriculture.

Some 651 houses were damaged.

A state of calamity was declared in Naga City.

The NDRRMC said P64,690,945 in aid has been provided to the victims.
