MANILA, Philippines — Three lawmakers have joined the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD), boosting the party’s membership at the House of Representatives to 109.
This number is over a third of the total number of lawmakers in the House, the office of Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez said.
Romualdez, the party’s president, administered the oath of membership to the three lawmakers: Zamboanga del Sur 2nd District Rep. Victoria Yu, Iloilo 5th District Rep. Raul Tupas, and Bukidnon 1st District Rep. Jose Manuel Alba on Monday.
La Paz, Abra Mayor JB Bernos, who is a former lawmaker, likewise took the oath of membership on the same day..
“Their affiliation widens support in Congress and the grassroots for President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ R. Marcos Jr. and his Agenda for Prosperity and Bagong Pilipinas programs,” Romualdez said.
“I am sure that our new members share our and the President’s aspirations for a better life for our people and a more progressive Philippines,” he said.
Lakas-CMD, the biggest political party in the House, is an ally of the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas.
Earlier this month, Southern Leyte 1st District Rep. Luz Mercado joined Lakas-CMD.
In late August, San Juan City Rep. Maria Ysabel Zamora and Cagayan 1st District Rep. Ramon Nolasco Jr. joined Lakas-CMD.
