MANILA, Philippines — Young local artist Caterina “Micat” Po is preparing for her first-ever solo show, “Seeing Beyond: Images From The Subconscious,” featuring her watercolor abstractions.
A graduate of the University of Hawai’i with a degree in Natural Resources and Environmental Management, Po’s artworks often draw from the environment.
The exhibit’s title itself is taken from Po’s mission and “pursuit of raising collective consciousness on Earth through transmitted images from the subconscious.”
Apart from the Earth, Po’s artworks find origins from her spiritual life, ancestral lineage, and experiences as a Filipina who “experiences intense oppression and patriarchy given the country’s long history of colonialism.”
Other inspirations are animism, Jungian psychology, psychedelic rock, and indigenous wisdom “rooted in reverence of nature and interconnectedness of all beings.”
“Seeing Beyond: Images From The Subconscious” will run at Archivo 1984 in Makati’s Karavin Plaza from October 12 to November 6.
