The Department of Justice (DOJ) on Saturday said there is still a small possibility of turning dismissed Bamban Mayor Alice Guo into a state witness following her return to the country.

During a news forum in Quezon City, Justice Assistant Secretary and spokesperson Mico Clavano said this is possible if Guo could point out the mastermind behind illegal activities of Philippine offshore gaming operators (POGOs).

“But if we can identify and meet someone even bigger involved in the illegal activities of POGO, then she might become a state witness, because she wouldn’t be the most guilty anymore. There’s an even bigger mastermind out there,” Clavano said.

However, he explained that Guo remains the most implicated figure in an ongoing investigation, disqualifying her from a chance to become a state witness.

“As of now, based on what we’ve learned from the investigation, she (Guo) still looks like the most guilty one, which disqualifies her from being a state witness,” Clavano said.

Guo returned to the Philippines on Friday following her arrest in Indonesia. She faces several charges, including human trafficking, misrepresentation, graft, and corruption.
