MANILA, Philippines — The arrival of former Bamban, Tarlac mayor Alice Guo this Thursday from Indonesia has been delayed allegedly due to procedural matters, according to Sen. Raffy Tulfo who is in that country to escort Guo back to the Philippines.
Tulfo, through his office, said that Guo was scheduled to take a chartered flight, RP-C6188, that was originally scheduled to take off from Jakarta at 1:15 p.m. and arrive in Manila at 6:15 p.m.
Aside from Tulfo, also in Indonesia were Local Government Secretary Benhur Abalos and Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, Gen. Rommel Marbil.
“Secretary Abalos traveled from Laguindingan airport to Manila yesterday (September 4), and from Manila, PGen Marbil and I flew together to Indonesia last night at 11 p.m. to personally pick up Guo and return to the Philippines,” Tulfo said in a press statement.
Abalos holds the arrest warrant issued by the Senate Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms against Guo.
Upon her return to Manila, Guo will be taken to the Bureau of Immigration (BI) and National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for further investigation.
After this, she will be taken to the Senate, where she will be with her sister, Shiela, in the detention facility while waiting for the next hearing.
The senator did not elaborate on the procedural matters that caused the delay.
Tulfo is the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Public Services, one of three three committees tasked to investigate the escape of Guo and company.
The two other committees are the Committee on Justice and Human Rights, led by Senate Minority Leader Aquilino Pimentel 3rd, and the Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations and Gender Equality, led by Senate Deputy Minority Leader Risa Hontiveros.
Senate President Francis Escudero said the Senate would pursue Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian’s proposal to file perjury and disobedience complaints against Guo, who skipped previous Senate hearings into the Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs).
