HYDROLOGISTS said on Monday that they have opened one gate each at Ambuklao and Binga dams in Benguet province to release water in anticipation of more rain.
Hydrologist Paulo Pamintuan of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) told The Manila Times via Viber that the two dams are near their spilling level.
As of 8 a.m. on Sept. 9, 2024, the reservoir water level (RWL) of Ambuklao Dam was at 751.49 meters or a deviation of -0.51 m from its normal high water level (NHWL) of 752 m.
Pamintuan said Binga Dam’s RWL was at 574.35 m or -0.65 m from its NHWL of 575 m.
The dams are releasing water with an opening measured at 0.30 m each.
“This is just minimal and is not directly affecting villages around the areas where the dams are located,” Pamintuan said.
