Para swimmer Angel Otom finished sixth in the finals of the women’s 50m backstroke – S5 event of the 2024 Paris Paralympics on early Wednesday (Philippine time) at the Paris La Defense Arena.

Otom clocked 44.00 seconds to place sixth among eight finalists as China swept the top three spots.

World and Paralympic record holder Lu Dong won the gold with 37.51 seconds, while He Shenggao placed second with 39.93 seconds. Liu Yu bagged the bronze with 42.37 seconds.

Earlier, the Filipino para swimmer registered 44.03 seconds to finish seventh and advanced to the finals.

Otom, however, will still compete in the women’s 50m butterfly – S5 event on Friday afternoon.
