What De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde head coach Charles Tiu wanted before the season started was to transform his team into one that’s not carried by just a player or two.

So far into NCAA Season 100, everything is going according to plan for the Taft crew.

“That was one of my messages to them throughout the offseason, even before this season started, that I want to be a team that every game somebody else is being the best player,” Tiu said on Saturday.

“That was one of our plans and that’s why we develop the guys throughout the long offseason, to be ready for this moment.”

In their season opener against Mapua University, Allen Liwag and Gab Cometa guided the Blazers with the former EAC General pouring double-double effort of 23 points and 18 rebounds while the guard churned out 17 markers, four boards, two dimes, and one steal.

It was then rookie Jhomel Ancheta’s turn to shine in their second outing, nailing timely baskets to steer them past reigning champion San Beda University, 70-65.

Another transferee in Tony Ynot took care of business in their latest win over Emilio Aguinaldo College, grabbing 16 points, seven rebounds, two assists, and one steal to preside over the 77-55 triumph.

These wins have catapulted Benilde to solo lead in the standings, making a strong case that this may be the year for the Blazers to win the title and overcome the ghost of the past where they fell short despite strong showings.
