TALLAHASSEE, Florida – At least 17 people were killed after Hurricane Helene slammed into Florida and surged Friday across the southeast United States, officials said, warning of people still trapped in buildings.
Georgia Governor Brian Kemp reported 11 fatalities in his state, including an emergency responder, while authorities in Pinellas County in Florida confirmed five storm-related deaths. Another death was confirmed in North Carolina. — Agence France-Presse
