A VESSEL was beached in Navotas City on Tuesday, 4 kilometers from where it was anchored, due to the strong winds and big waves brought by Tropical Storm Enteng.
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said Barge Karangalan 2 was moored at the San Miguel Corp. Shipping Lighterage Wharf in Tanza, Navotas City, when its forward ropes broke after being buffeted by big waves at around 6 a.m.
The PCG said Barge Karangalan 2 was immediately towed by MTUG Limay 3 to a safer place.
It added that around 9:15 a.m, the barge managed to drop anchor off Tanza in Navotas City, but strong winds and big waves dragged it toward the shallow portion of Pondohan, Tangos North.
The PCG advised the barge’s master to file a marine protest and an emergency salvage permit for extraction.
As of press time, the PCG said it was monitoring the vessel, adding a boarding inspection was in order as soon as the weather permits.
On Monday, the PCG responded to five similar maritime incidents in Navotas City at the height of Tropical Storm Enteng.
