The Bureau of Immigration (BI) would file charges against its personnel involved in the escape of dismissed Bamban, Tarlac mayor Alice Guo.
BI Intelligence Chief Fortunato Manahan, Jr. did not rule out the possibility of the involvement of immigration personnel to help Guo flee the country, saying the bureau is now conducting an inquiry to find out if a member of the BI was involved in Guo’s escape.
“We cannot rule out that BI personnel were not involved. But rest assured that any involvement of BI personnel, once we establish their involvement, we will file criminal and administrative cases, and we will submit it to this committee,” Manahan said.
Manahan made the remarks after Senator Joel Villanueva raised concern over the possible hand of the BI in aiding Guo to leave the country.
“I hope the Bureau of Immigration would have the passion right now to clear the agency,” Villanueva added.
Manahan assured the senate that it will submit its findings once they establish any BI personnel that helped Guo escape through airports or seaports in the country.
Earlier, the BI said that Guo left the country without passing through immigration authorities.
Guo, in her previous statement, told the senate that she left the country via boats.
