MPCALA Holdings Inc., the concessionaire of the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (Calax), announced that the Calax Governor’s Drive Interchange had reached 25 percent completion and is slated to open by the first quarter of 2025.

In a statement, the company said the interchange would decongest traffic on major roads in Cavite and help spur economic activities for the cities and municipalities in the province.

Spanning 7.8 kilometers from the Silang (Aguinaldo) Interchange to Governor’s Drive, the segment will be the longest operational section of Calax by the first quarter of 2025 while the two remaining segments remain under construction.

Excavation works, bridge and drainage construction, and installation of fences are currently ongoing, it said.

“We are pressing forward to ensure the timely delivery of the Governor’s Drive Interchange,” said Raul Ignacio, MPCALA president and general manager.

“Once operational, this vital infrastructure will ease traffic congestion, provide a faster route for thousands of motorists and stimulate economic growth across Cavite and Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon).”

Two other major segments of Calax, Subsection 2 (Open Canal Interchange) and Subsection 1 (Kawit Interchange), were said to be progressing steadily with completion at 15 percent and 25 percent, respectively.

Both segments are expected to open by the third quarter of 2025 and will eventually connect Calax to the Manila-Cavite Expressway (Cavitex) via the Cavitex-Calax Link.

MPCALA said the overall completion rate of the entire Calax project currently stood at 64 percent.

Calax currently serves over 45,000 motorists daily but the number is expected to hit at least 95,000 once the full expressway is connected to Cavitex.
