Catriona Gray shared the lessons she learned after she and her family were robbed in London a few weeks back.
On Instagram, the Miss Universe 2018 queen opened up about how she has been feeling ever since the robbery incident.
“Since coming back since the robbery incident, I have a newfound tension when I step outside, a new anxiousness with my surroundings and belongings,” she wrote.
Last month, Catriona and her parents, Ian and Mita, traveled to London and also visited Ian’s homeland in Scotland.
Afterward, while on the way to the airport, the family stopped for lunch, only for their car to be broken in. According to Catriona, their passports and belongings were stolen.
“I just wanna share some of the things I learned (hopefully to spare anyone else the same experience). Things are just things and things can be replaced. Family and their safety is the most important thing,” she said.
Catriona also advised the public not to trust any paid parking facilities in London, even if these boast of having CCTV and other security measures.
“We made this mistake and wish we hadn’t,” she said. “Always take your passports and important medications with you
She also expressed her gratitude to those who extended their help to her and her parents, including those who assisted them in travel arrangements and helped source a doctor for her dad’s essential medications.
Catriona added that she won’t let the unfortunate incident mire the happy memories she and her parents made on the trip.
“At first I felt that the robbery and the stress that ensued blotted out the joy and happy memories from the special homecoming trip of my dad. But I decided I won’t let the thieves steal that too. Stay safe everyone,” she said.
Friends and followers expressed their support for Cat, including celebrity doctor Vicki Belo who commended her for her “great attitude.”
“It’s been your dream for [so] long to bring your dad there. And it was a beautiful love filled trip until the last day,” Vicki said, who also advised her to be kind to herself.
“You will experience anxiety and stress because you were in a way violated. Lift all your concerns up to the lord. We can do all things through Christ who strengthens me,” the celebrity doctor added.
In a previous post on Instagram, Catriona shared that this trip is her dad’s first time to return to Scotland after immigrating to Australia in 1952 when he was just seven years old.
“It’s like I’m discovering right alongside him – our heritages and family history. I’m so grateful to be able to do this trip with him,” she said then.
